Congratulations KAPP Students

KAPP students and staff

Congratulations to our Kindergarten Academic Preparation Program (KAPP) Students! They just completed a six-week program to prepare for Kindergarten in August.

I would like to extend our thanks to the KAPP sponsors - United Way of Topeka, and YWCA. I would also like to thank our community partners Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, Kansas Kids Discovery Center, Forster Grandparents, Modern And Kansas Expo Center and Grace Med, without the support of our community this program would not be possible. Finally, I would like to thank our Program Administrator, Sharon Bedolla and her staff for all of the hard work before and during the KAPP program

Teacher Appreciation Week

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

We have been celebrating our teachers all week long. Today is a special day as I attended the graduation for the TPS 14 teachers who have completed Graduate School at Kansas State University. These teachers joined the 52 percent of our teachers in Topeka who have advanced degrees.

Week of the Young Child

This week I spent some time volunteering in classrooms around the district. Below are some photos from my time at State Street Elementary, teaching Ms. Abernathy's Kindergarten Class.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

We are excited about what the 2018 school year!

While the schools are on break, I had a wonderful time in December visiting the staff and students this week. I had an opportunity to lead an activity at one of our learning centers we support and during the break and I visited several families during our home visits. Pictured below are a couple of photos from students completing an art activity with me the last week of December.

We thank all of our partners in education for helping us meet so many needs across our community. 2017 has been a year filled with opportunities and we look forward to an exciting 2018 year. Our students depend on all of us to ensure they have a bright future ahead. Thank you for your past support and for the continued support in 2018.

Thank you for your support of our Topeka Public Schools.

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays from our family to yours.

During this holiday season the Assistant Superintendent and I have been visiting schools and families as they prepared for the winter break. We also had some students bring their musical talent to the Burnett Administrative Center.

This semester the focus has been on energy and electricity sources. On Monday, they presented their research at Westar Energy.
