Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

We are excited about what the 2018 school year!

While the schools are on break, I had a wonderful time in December visiting the staff and students this week. I had an opportunity to lead an activity at one of our learning centers we support and during the break and I visited several families during our home visits. Pictured below are a couple of photos from students completing an art activity with me the last week of December.

We thank all of our partners in education for helping us meet so many needs across our community. 2017 has been a year filled with opportunities and we look forward to an exciting 2018 year. Our students depend on all of us to ensure they have a bright future ahead. Thank you for your past support and for the continued support in 2018.

Thank you for your support of our Topeka Public Schools.

Students at Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet school have been learning about energy this semester through our Corporate Bigs program. This program is a partnership with Westar Energy, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Topeka Public Schools that emphasize STEAM Learning. This semester the focus has been on energy and electricity sources. On Monday, they presented their research at Westar Energy.

Celebrating a need in the Topeka Public Schools

Millie Murphy recognized many years ago the need to help Topeka Public Schools children feel their best and that is why today, a room at Quinton Heights Welcome Center was dedicated to her to support the needs of our school children.

Thank you to Mrs. Murphy's family for making the trip to Topeka to celebrate her and her dedication to the children in the Topeka Public Schools.

Forge's Living the Dream

Friday,  Forge, Young Professionals held a Living the Dream Symposium for some of the top children from Topeka's Boys and Girls Club. This gave the kids an opportunity to learn more about different career choices. To learn more about the event click here.

Between the career information booths and my keynote, the kids had a few minutes with a live DJ to burn off some extra energy. While not everyone wanted to dance several joined in on the fun.

Learning about careers and following dreams was what the day was about. Sometimes it just takes one person to foster those dreams in a child.

Let's all take a moment and think about how we can help foster the dreams of our kids. Support comes from all areas, not just financially, kids need to know you believe in them.

Thank you for your support of our Topeka Public Schools!
